THE DESIGNERS

Ethan Hall and Haider Sharif met and began their collaboration after gaining their final qualifications as MA in Interior Architecture cementing their joint passion for architectural design and history at the University of Westminster and augmenting their wealth of experience in all facets of art and architectural design and decoration.

Ethan Hall’s highly commended imaginative re-design of the interiors of a Piccadilly bank building designed by the acclaimed British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens echoed his own education in design.

First enthused by the complete designs of American cars seen around his native New Hampshire, subsequent education in art history and Italian qualifications in antique painting restoration were followed by further qualifications from Christies London-Cambridge course and then hands-on experience with two leading London art galleries, before he began his own design career.

Haider Sharif’s prize winning entry for his University of Westminster qualifications featured a wooden chair reflecting the best of modern design and manufacturing techniques and reflecting his interest in construction based on pressed wood veneers, formerly experimented with by the noted Bauhaus designer Franz Singer. One of his prototype chairs now in the Victoria and Albert Museum formed the inspiration for the new design.

Haider Sharif was inspired in his design career by the study of ancient Islamic patterns and their re-interpretation in modern settings during his higher education in Lahore. His own management skills were tested at the age of sixteen, when his father put him in charge of a sixty-room hotel.

Various commissions include panelled rooms and furniture designed and made for a variety of clients and settings on two continents.

DESIGNING ROOTS

Both Hall and Sharif are enthused by the innovative architectural designers of the past, as distilled into the transformative redefinition of form and function during the last century. These encompass the Secessionists such as Koloman Moser, and the redefinition of neo-classicism expressed by Edwin Lutyens, whilst also referencing the work of the Bauhaus designers and modernist French designers such as Pierre Chareau. Of recent origin, the work of Michael Graves and Alexander Girard are equally inspirational to both designers.

INNOVATIVE DESIGNERS

Hall and Sharif are adept at commissioning textiles, carpets, furniture, lighting and bathroom fittings , whilst finding the best solutions for the use of practical kitchen spaces and garden designs.

Their most recent collaboration with Prince Rustislav Romanov has also taken them into the design of exclusive carpets and tableware.

Hall and Sharif welcome all enquiries about your own design projects. We are always ready to consider all forms of domestic or commercial work and look forward to hearing from you.
